Next Gen Sliding Door Receives Architectural Record’s 2019 Record Product Award

MEDFORD, Wis. – December 3, 2019 Weather Shield is pleased to announce that the Contemporary Collection Next Gen Sliding Patio Door was chosen as a Windows, Doors & Hardware product category winner for Architectural Record’s 2019 Record Product Awards.

An independent jury of designers and architects combed through hundreds of building product submissions this year. Narrowing it down to the best-of-the-best in design and innovation, they selected 65 winners across eight categories, with the Best in Category receiving top numerical rankings.

“We’re honored to have our Next Gen Sliding Patio Door chosen as a RECORD Product Award Winner by Architectural Record,” said Chris Schield, vice president of marketing. “We worked diligently to create a door that closely aligns with modern design by incorporating narrow profiles, large expanses of glass and leading performance. Recognition of this product by Architectural Record is validation of our design mission and we couldn’t be more excited.”

Weather Shield’s Contemporary Collection Next Gen Sliding Patio Door is transforming the sliding door category with larger sizes, improved overall performance, superior operation and an advanced low-profile sill design. While other sliding doors may force consumers to make choices between narrow profiles and higher performance, this reimagined design delivers both.

The advanced locking system makes the Next Gen Sliding Door unique. By engaging the lock lever, the operating panel shifts away from weather stripping when in use, significantly improving operation — because the panel is not rolling against weather stripping. When the door is in the locked position, the panel is drawn in to create an exceptionally tight seal with multiple lock points on both stiles. A wept 1-1/4″ low-profile sill diverts water away from the interior. An optional direct-glazed version of the door panel profiles and expands visible glass, offering a clean, modern look.
